One of the most popular sporting activities today is the 5K race. They happen through out the country and come in all different themes. Runners get splashed with color, escape from zombies, dress as a specific decade, and commonly end with a party at the finish line. In Mt. Pleasant, MI however, they take the 5K race and amplify it. By adding obstacles and hosting the race during the month of February, the Man Vs. Mountain 5K is not a race to be messed with.

“We are very excited to host the Man vs. Mountain 5k that will provide participants a fun and challenging activity to take advantage of during the dog days of winter!  The winter months of Michigan bring plenty of cold and snow which brings an opportunity to put a fun twist on it,” said Steve Hofer, Recreation Coordinator for the City of Mt. Pleasant, “It is our goal to create a fun event that will challenge participants and leave them wanting to come back for another chance to conquer the obstacles!”

The Man vs. Mountain 5K is a winter obstacle course that will race through the beautiful city park system in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Racers will face 13 different obstacles including hopping over cars, a cargo wall climb, a spider maze, and even a mystery obstacle just before the finish line. “Our advice for racers is to dress warm and have some fun!  The event is for all skill levels from those who are looking to achieve a successful race result to those who are looking for something fun to participate in,” said Hofer. Man vs. Mountain registration will continue until February 5th. Racers pay a $60 race fee which includes a race hoodie, socks, and a beer mug. Starting in Mt. Pleasant’s Nelson Park and ending at Mountain Town Station, racers will see parts of Mt. Pleasant most people miss during the winter season. So bundle up and see if you have what it takes to finish Man vs. Mountain where it’s not so pleasant.
