For over 40 years, Central Michigan University and the Mt. Pleasant area has welcomed Special Olympics Michigan athletes, fans, supporters, and volunteers for the State Summer Games. Yearly, more than 2,7000 athletes travel and compete in 10 different competition events. Keep reading to discover the top five reasons you should attend the State Summer Games⤵️
1. Experience an Olympic Event
The State Summer Games kick off the event with an opening ceremony like the Olympic Games. Witness the entrance and introductions of all the teams and athletes competing from across Michigan and experience the tradition of the torch lighting ceremony signaling the official start of the State Summer Games.
2. Cheer on the Athletes
Celebrate and cheer on the accomplishments of the athletes. Like all athletes, State Summer Game athletes are dedicated to their sport, strive to succeed for themselves, and support other athletes. At the games, you’ll see a variety of sports including track and field events, bocce ball, gymnastics, swimming, and powerlifting.
