History
The roar of the crowd, the swish of the net, and then toilet paper falling from the arena was the start to Central Michigan University Men’s Basketball games throughout the 80’s. This iconic tradition received national attention after People’s Magazine picked up Peggy Brisbane’s photo of the 1987 CMU vs. Western Michigan Basketball game.

The tradition faced its share of challenges. After the MAC passed a rule prohibiting objects on the court, the iconic Toilet Paper Toss was temporarily halted. After 40 years, the Toilet Paper Toss made a return in 2023 with the same vibe, energy, and excitement. The Toilet Paper Toss now happens prior to tipoff maintaining the integrity of the game and instead of bringing their own toilet paper, CMU provides it to fans coming to the game.
