Mt. Pleasant is know for its commitment to give back. There are many opportunities to volunteer in Mt. Pleasant, and the city is home to a wide variety of organizations that rely on volunteers to help them achieve their mission. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and make a difference in your community.
Volunteer Oppourtunites:
Bonny’s Clean Up Crew: Join Bonny’s Clean Up Crew. Meeting every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at different locations throughout Mt. Pleasant, Bonny’s cleans the parks for about an hour and then eats breakfast at Ponder Coffee Co.. Anyone is welcome to come.
Habitat for Humanity: Habitat for Humanity Isabella County aims to seek passionate individuals and organizations to join us in our fight against substandard housing in Isabella County. Volunteer for a Habitat for Humanity committee, work with our construction crew, or volunteer at Restore helping to provide discounted buiding materials and home goods to the Mt. Pleasant community.
Humane Animal Treatment Society: The Humane Animal Treatment Society is always seeking dedicated volunteers for a variety of activites to provide care and socilization for their animals on a consistent basis.
Isabella Community Soup Kitchen: Help the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen Monday through Friday preparing and serving meals, serving sides, drinks, sanitizing during meals, or reach out for a special project or unique group activity.
Gold Key Volunteer Opportunites: Providing opportunities for individuals of all ages to volunteer their time and talents to assist Older Adults throughout Isabella County.
McLaren Central Michigan: Welcoming volunteers to help in many areas as volunteers help make McLauren Central Michigan a warm,personal place. Responsibilities may include working in the gift shop, staffing the information desk, supporting families in a waiting room, etc. All potential volunteers must be at least 18 years old, and have at least a high school diploma.
MyMichiganHealth: Volunteers are a valuable asset to MyMichigan Health. The presence and the assistance they provide enhances the quality of care we offer our patients and families. There are a variety of areas where volunteers can serve, and we are always seeking new areas of assistance.

Event Details
Have you wanted to learn how to knit but didn’t know where to start? Here is your chance to have one-on-one instruction with knitting pro Tanya Ehrsam! Over this six-week class, students will learn about different types of yarn, how to read a pattern, casting on, and a variety of different stitches. Students will learn to work flat and in the round, as well as finishing techniques. You can expect to select a pattern for a scarf or cowl neck scarf and be able to finish it by the end of the 6th week. A supply list and course outline will be provided to students.
The first session will begin Tuesday, November 7 from 5:30-7:30 pm and will be held from 5:30-7 pm each Tuesday thereafter, until December 12, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway, Mt. Pleasant, MI.
*Students 10 years and older are welcome to participate.

This four-week class for teens and tweens is designed to offer a platform for jumping into colored pencils. Instructor Emily McDonald starts with the basics and students will explore general drawing techniques and play with layering on colors, blending, and creating texture. We will utilize reference images to work from and explore portraiture. This class is designed to allow students to share ideas, their work, and progress. We supply high-quality Prismacolor pencils and drawing paper but students are welcome to bring a drawing book to work from and build a portfolio.
The class will be held from 4-5:30 pm on Thursdays, beginning November 16 in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway, Mount Pleasant, MI.
