Deepen your understanding of landscape painting with artist Matthew Grimmer. During this six-week course, students will learn the building blocks of creating dynamic, well-composed landscapes. Starting with sketches, students will practice draftsmanship and compositional studies to prepare their canvas for paint. We will cover how to use a variety of artistic tools, including but not limited to pens, pencils, watercolors, and cameras, to gather the information required to complete our oil paintings later in the course. Students will employ the “new” oil method, which involves a base layer of marble dust, oil, and pigment, followed by a detailed underpainting focused on values, layout, and linework. During the following weeks, we will shift our attention to more in-depth painting skills: color theory, brush handling, and working fat-over-lean, to name a few. This course is designed for intermediate-level painters.
This 6-week course will be held weekly from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23-January 27 in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.
Recommended age: 16 and up
Please note: An active membership is not required to register. Active members receive a 15% discount on classes.

About Filter:
Diversity has been a hallmark of Richard Patrick’s career, and it’s administered with crushing efficiency on his latest eclectic set of new material from his band Filter. Fans weaned on the industrial outbursts and corrosive beats of such platinum- selling albums as Short Bus and Title of Record will be ecstatic to hear Patrick’s unmistakable scream and unflinching honesty dominating this new album.
The prolific multi-instrumentalist swings back and forth between intensely personal narratives and politically charged diatribes in throwback industrial crushers. On the surface, tracks like “Thoughts & Prayers,” “Murica” and “Come Take My Guns” detail disgust in the goings on during Trump’s time in the White House, while a track like “Race to the Bottom” chronicles the alcoholics road to addiction.
About Filter Eleven:
Finger Eleven, the alternative rock band from Ontario, and one of the best-selling Canadian bands of all time, have released a series of consecutive hit albums and become among the greatest live bands to ever emerge from the great White North. The Greyest of Blue Skies, their debut, broke Finger Eleven into the international mainstream, achieving Gold status in the United States and Platinum in Canada, and smashing the first single “One Thing”, across the radio and Billboard charts. Their 2007 album, Them vs. You vs. Me, launched the single “Paralyzer”, setting radio records in the US, peaking at #1 internationally and going 5x Platinum, the band’s second million+ seller. They won the Juno Award for Rock Album the following year and set an incredible run at rock radio, with an unbeaten #14 weeks at the top spot. Life Turns Electric, was nominated for a Juno Award for Best Rock Album of the Year. Five Crooked Lines continued to electrify audiences the world over and their 2023 Greatest Hits includes their biggest smash hit in a decade, Together Right, which topped the radio charts for an amazing 5-week run at #1.

Grab your tickets to see Dylan Scott inside the Entertainment Hall at Soaring Eagle Casino!
About Dylan Scott:
Despite a multi-Platinum story and six No. 1 singles, including two fresh smashes in 2025 alone, Curb Records hitmaker Dylan Scott has always kept an underdog mindset. A rowdy roughneck with a romantic side – one whose modern edge was sharpened by timeless, emotional twang – the consummate family man broke out with the epic triple-Platinum devotion of “My Girl” in 2016 and followed up with scrappy, under-the-radar consistency.
