Fresh off the heels of the recent announcement of a pilot program that teaches area underserved youth the benefits of the outdoors, Chippewa Watershed Conservancy has released its seasonal list of educational programming opportunities available to the general public.

A number of indoor and outdoor events are planned for these winter months, and all of them open to the public and most of them free, unless otherwise noted. They include:

  • Green Fire Film Screening; Thursday, Dec. 13 at Veterans Memorial Library: A free screening of the Emmy Award-winning documentary of conservationist Aldo Leopold
  • Guided Winter Solstice Hike; Friday, Dec. 21 at Sylvan Solace Preserve: A guided hike on the shortest day of the year
  • First Day Hike; Tuesday; Jan. 1 at Bundy Hill: A guided hike to the summit of Isabella County’s highest point, Bundy Hill
  • Guided Snowshoe Hike; Saturday, Feb. 2 at Sylvan Solace Preserve: A guided hike by snowshoe and, if no snow, by foot
  • Craft Beer & Pizza Friendraiser; Thursday, Feb. 7 at Hunters Ale House: Help the CWC raise money over craft beer and pizza. A $15 cover
  • Signs of Winter Animal Activity Hike; Saturday, Feb. 9 at Halls Lake Natural Area: Learn which snow prints belong to which animals’ paws
  • Seasonal Changes Guided Hike; Saturday, March 23 at Sylvan Solace Preserve: A guided hike and search for the earliest signs of spring

“At Chippewa Watershed Conservancy, we don’t just permanently protect land through conservation easements and nature preserve acquisitions. We implore people to broaden their understanding of the world around them,” says Jon Breithaupt, Executive Director of CWC.

“The array of opportunities we’re offering this winter give people a different perspective on places they may frequently visit.”

The non-profit organization Chippewa Watershed Conservancy owns and manages more than 600 acres across 22 public nature preserves. Visit them online to learn more about their winter programming activities.
