The Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games is the largest annual sporting event hosted by Special Olympics Michigan, bringing together thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities from across the state for a weekend of competition, celebration, and inclusion.
Held each year on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, the State Summer Games features three days of Olympic-style competition in a variety of sports, including athletics (track & field), swimming, bocce, volleyball, powerlifting, and more.
The event welcomes nearly 3,000–4,000 athletes, along with thousands of coaches, volunteers, family members, and fans, making it not only a premier competition but also a powerful community gathering. In addition to sports, the Games include opening ceremonies, health and wellness screenings, and social activities that promote confidence, teamwork, and lifelong friendships.
More than just a competition, the State Summer Games celebrates the abilities and achievements of individuals with intellectual disabilities while promoting inclusion and acceptance across Michigan.
