Natural Alternative Oil Painting

Oil painting can be a complicated process filled with many chemicals, but it doesn’t have to be! Local artist Matter Grimmer will lead participants through alternatives to modern hazardous materials. This class will introduce students to safely handle oil paints. This includes identifying oil paint ingredients and hazards, alternatives to hazardous media, safely storing chemicals and other good practices. History of oil painting.

Students will not only get an introduction to oil painting, but also learn of the history of oil painting, what artists used before chemicals were produced on a mass scale and learn to paint with interesting alternative media such as milk!

This 3-hour workshop takes place 1-4 pm Saturday, August 27, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.
