Learn to express yourself through writing with poet and English Instructor Cheryl Meyer. This 3-week short story course will cover the basics of characterization, setting, plot, tone, and diction. Students will be provided with prompts at the end of some classes to be done for discussion and workshopping in the following weeks. Students will create and enhance written pieces, crafting a character-driven story.

This 3-week course takes place from 3-5 pm Tuesdays, November 7-21 in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

Have you wanted to learn how to knit but didn’t know where to start? Here is your chance to have one-on-one instruction with knitting pro Tanya Ehrsam! Over this six-week class, students will learn about different types of yarn, how to read a pattern, casting on, and a variety of different stitches. Students will learn to work flat and in the round, as well as finishing techniques. You can expect to select a pattern for a scarf or cowl neck scarf and be able to finish it by the end of the 6th week. A supply list and course outline will be provided to students.

The first session will begin Tuesday, November 7 from 5:30-7:30 pm and will be held from 5:30-7 pm each Tuesday thereafter, until December 12, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway, Mt. Pleasant, MI.

*Students 10 years and older are welcome to participate.

Students of all ages will enjoy this guided, step-by-step painting class. Students will take home a finished acrylic painting on 8×10 canvas. All supplies will be provided! Ages 6 & up.

Join Executive Director Amy Powell for a foray into the Swiss and German art of Scherenschnitte.  Translated as “scissor cuts”, scherenschnitte utilizes small detail scissors to craft highly detailed works out of paper.  Properly mounted and displayed on a backing, they are intricate and charming artworks reminiscent of traditional folk art of years past.  Students will be provided a choice of simple seasonal templates to work from, scherenschnitte scissors, and a frame to display their final work.  

Class will be held from 5-6 pm on Monday, November 13 and 20 in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway, Mount Pleasant, MI.

Toddlers (and parents!) are invited to join us for Wee Wednesdays! Wee Wednesdays is a bi-monthly program held from 10 to 11 am on the first and third Wednesday of the month. During each session, wee ones will gain skills in art, reading, critical thinking, and tactile development. Each session will be a new project created on-site for your little ones to take home and enjoy!

The program starts at 10 am, Wednesday, November 15, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway in Mount Pleasant.

Cozy up with some hot cocoa and get in the holiday spirit! Instructor Annie Croft will guide you in creating a festive, holiday-themed porch sign to bring in the season. Participants will have a choice of two board sizes to paint, as well as assorted stencils to personalize their project. If you would rather paint a general theme, that’s okay too!

Class will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway St, Mt. Pleasant, MI.

This four-week class for teens and tweens is designed to offer a platform for jumping into colored pencils.  Instructor Emily McDonald starts with the basics and students will explore general drawing techniques and play with layering on colors, blending, and creating texture.  We will utilize reference images to work from and explore portraiture.  This class is designed to allow students to share ideas, their work, and progress. We supply high-quality Prismacolor pencils and drawing paper but students are welcome to bring a drawing book to work from and build a portfolio.

The class will be held from 4-5:30 pm on Thursdays, beginning November 16 in the Idonea Hersee Classroom at Art Reach, 111 E. Broadway, Mount Pleasant, MI.

Brews & Bushes is a monthly, step-by-step acrylic painting class led by experienced and creative instructors. Guests are invited to bring a friend, a favorite beverage & a little creativity. We will provide supplies & help you paint your own masterpiece in the style of the image shown on a 16×20 canvas to take home! This one-time easy class is the perfect place for painters of any skill level!
