A Mt. Pleasant golf trip means less time in the car and more time out on the course. Ace your next outing by teeing off in this centrally located area that features 13 golf courses within a 30-minute chip shot of each other.

Golfers can experience variety in the area, from championship links to relaxing “Up North” style courses. Whether an advanced, recreational or beginner golfer, Mt. Pleasant’s diverse range of courses cater to any proficiency and style of game.

Golfers will also discover 19th holes that cater to any palate in Mt. Pleasant. Many area courses include dining experiences that prompt a seamless transition from tee time to dinner time.

Forget par for the course — keep these four courses on your radar, which in addition to hosting a spectacular golf experience also serve savory dishes that exceed expectations.

PohlCat Golf Course

Pohlcat is a par-72, championship course that mixes modern and classic links-style holes. Mature trees, rolling tall grass, the Chippewa River and various ponds dapple Pohlcat, providing picturesque views with an “Up North” feel along the course.

“Each hole is unique and gives you different looks,” said Marissa Dunn, general manager at Pohlcat. “It keeps you guessing and engaged with the strategy of your game as you’re playing. It’s challenging with a side of fun.”

Pohlcat also delivers a delicious side with the Den Bar & Grill. The menu in 2024 underwent a revamp, focusing on signature burgers. Dunn said abundant time and energy went into developing five gourmet burgers with special sauces: the Hole-In-One, Double Bogey, Black Cat BLT, Buckaroo and Fiesta. She also teased a new addition to be announced later this year.

Appetizers, wraps, breakfast sandwiches and grab-and-go items round out the menu, allowing golfers to dine either before or after their round.

The Den includes a wraparound patio that overlooks the 18th hole, where you can watch golfers tee off and enjoy the sights and sounds of the course. Dunn said the restaurant offers a loose, playful atmosphere, which matches the spirit of the course.

“No one comes to the golf course to have a bad day,” she said. “[Pohlcat] is always a good time with friendly and upbeat service. The vibes are good.”

Tally’s Bar & Grill at The Pines at Lake Isabella

The Pines combines the splendor of Lake Isabella and the Chippewa River with a wonderfully designed course for one of Michigan’s best values in golf. The 15th tee is especially notable, where golfers admire the 875-acre Lake Isabella and stand atop the dam that separates it from the river.

The food is as memorable as the views on this championship course, too. In 2022, The Pines completed sweeping renovations on Tally’s Bar & Grill. This recent restaurant overhaul included a kitchen expansion with new equipment and improved layout.

Tally’s Bar & Grill cooks up a locally sourced menu with everything from tacos to burgers to flatbreads to seafood.

Tap Room and St. Ives Grille at Tullymore Resort

Two distinct courses at the Tullymore Golf Resort also means two distinct dining experiences — consider it a two-for-one special.

Nestled among 800 acres of stunning woodlands and wetlands, Tullymore and St. Ives both offer award-winning golf experiences in a single destination. Acclaimed by Golf Digest, Tullymore weaves golfers through a challenging course with varying greens in both shape and size across its striking environment.

St. Ives, also highly praised, offers a dynamic experience filled with natural spectacle across a course crafted from the dramatic glacier-carved landscape of Michigan. Its accolades include a prestigious 5-star rating from Golf Digest.

As golfers discover something new whenever they play these courses, they’ll want to match that energy in the restaurants and order a different dish each visit. The Tap Room at Tullymore and St. Ives Grille both serve masterfully curated menus for you to relish among captivating views.

The Tap Room is a cozy, Irish-style pub with an expansive patio overlooking the 18th hole. Relaxing here is as satisfying as the menu, which features craft cocktails, mouthwatering appetizers like boneless wings, comfort food like pot roast, char-crusted beef strip loin, grown-up mac & cheese and so much more.

A casual ambiance awaits at St. Ives Grille. The menu that features juicy burgers, pretzel-crusted chicken, pan-seared ribeye, panko- and herb-crusted walleye and more. Pro tip: Wednesday night is Trivia Night, featuring great dinner and drink specials.

Hole 9 at St. Ives.

Between the variety of courses and their dining experiences, an array of lodging options and enticing entertainment — like Soaring Eagle Casino — Mt. Pleasant is among the peak of Michigan golf trip experiences.

“There’s a smalltown feel,” Dunn said. “The people are friendly, you are going to feel welcomed and accommodated. The community is great and there’s always stuff to do.”
