In a unique opportunity to raise money for the community, Central Michigan University is hosting the Dance United fundraiser.
The annual dance showcase is more about raising funds for the United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties than it is about judging participants on their dance moves.
The 8th annual Dance United fundraiser for United Way of Gratiot and Isabella Counties takes place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, at McGuirk Arena.
This year’s event features 12 groups in total, including nine duos and three teams.
“This is a fundraising competition. These teams have been out there for weeks and months, collecting pledges, online and in-person, and selling tickets,” says Annie Sanders, president and CEO for the United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties.
“After the performances, we’ll announce the total amount raised, and the team and duo that raised the most.”
It’s a fun way to help support the United Way and its mission. Dance United has raised more than $200,000 in its eight years. This year’s goal is $30,000, the amount of which will go to the United Way and 45 different community organizations that it supports.
Tickets for the event are $10 for adults, $5 for those aged 17 and under, and $5 for CMU students.
A VIP event will be held in the Star Lounge in the atrium from 6 to 7 p.m. The $40 ticket includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, live music, silent auction, networking and premier reserved seating for the show.
“Nobody is going to be judged on their dance skills–just get out there and have a good time. We call this more of a dance showcase,” Sanders says.
“This is really about being an opportunity to help the community.”
Tickets for Dance United are available online through Ticket Central, calling (989) 774-3045, or at the Kulhavi Events Center. General admission tickets will be available at the door on the day of the event.
