Welcome to my Mt. Pleasant!

It doesn’t seem all that long ago, but it has been almost 13 years since I first unpacked my bags in a dorm room on the second floor of Calkins Hall on the campus of Central Michigan University. Since then, Mt. Pleasant has been my home. The place where I got engaged, rented my first apartment, got married, bought my first house, had two amazing children, and most recently, launched my own business.

Over the years Mt. Pleasant has continued to be a place full of great moments, opportunity, and friendship. Because of that, my husband Aaron and I have been able to enjoy all that Mt. Pleasant has to offer no matter what stage of life we’re in. That’s why I’m excited to share my Mt. Pleasant with you. Sure, everyone’s experience is different, but my hope with this blog takeover is to highlight some of our favorite aspects of this town we have come to know and love a little bit more every single day.

Before I really let you in on what my favorite aspects of Mt. Pleasant are, you should probably first know what my days typically look like.

I usually start my days pretty early. My boys, Eli and Ben, are 8 and 6 and both attend school in town, so my first stop of the day is in the drop-off line at their school. From there, I head on over to our beautiful downtown (link to: https://www.facebook.com/downtownmp)  – hands-down my favorite area. That’s where my business, thePlate Boutique (link to: http://theplateboutique.com ), is located.

Before opening the store though, I often head across the street to Max & Emily’s (link to: http://maxandemilys.com) for a coffee – especially on a day where I know I’m going to be busy planning in-store events and touching base with our nutrition education clients.

thePlate Boutique is really where I spend most of my time though. You can find me, apron on, ready to help people get excited about spending more time in their kitchens.

After work, I get to go home and enjoy dinner with my family. We usually keep it pretty simple and enjoy spending time together in the kitchen as much as possible.

This year we’re also trying our hand at a garden! It’s been on my bucket list for awhile, so I’m glad we’re getting a chance to do it together this year! So far, everything is still growing! Yay!

My evening hours are really dedicated to my family and we love getting to take advantage of the great park system we have here in Mt. Pleasant. I wish that as a student I would have realized how truly amazing our parks really are! They are full of great trails for walking and biking, plus plenty of space to enjoy a picnic or grill out with family and friends.

Now that we’re enjoying warmer days, you can be sure that my family and I will be spending plenty of time in our beautiful parks!

Throughout the week, I hope you’ll enjoy seeing Mt. Pleasant through my eyes. I’m going to show you a few of my favorite kid-friendly attractions and favorite foodie finds. Believe it or not, Mt. Pleasant has a lot to offer if you simply know where to look.
