IT’S TIME FOR THE FREAKING FREEZING CHALLENGE!
Are you ready? On February 9, 2013 the city parks of Mount Pleasant are transforming into a unique winter-themed 5K obstacle course! This event will challenge you or team of your closest friends and family to risk it all against Michigan’s winter elements.
The Freaking Freezing Challenge is a new winter event in the city of Mount Pleasant created by the Mount Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Adrenaline Sports Management (ASM). This event combines a winter wonderland with some intense surprises along the way to challenge you physically and keep you moving in the winter.
This fun 5k course will test your abilities to run, climb, jump and crawl your way through strategically placed obstacles that are anything but ordinary. Obstacles like the hay bale brawl, army crawl and the off- road trek are sure to test your strength and endurance! Check out the web site for more information about the unique obstacles and course.
Participants will be supplied with the essentials – hat, gloves, and a sweatshirt the day before the race, but the rest is up to you! It’s a perfect time to get out of the house and get moving! Face Michigan’s winter weather and have fun while doing it!
Upon completing the challenge, participants will be greeted with a complimentary beer stein and are welcomed to enjoy a free local craft beer at
Mountain Town Station– Mount Pleasant’s local brewery. Racers and spectators are welcome and encouraged to celebrate the accomplishments of the racers at the victory party as they bask in the triumph of conquering the Freaking Freezing course!
Members of the Mount Pleasant Jaycees, a chapter of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce, will be present at the victory party at Mountain Town Station starting at 10 a.m. Inside Mountain Town, spectators and racers will have the opportunity to watch the race unfold from the racers perspective while keeping warm indoors!
Rather watch racers run by? Mountain Town Station will also open their outdoor patio for the event so you can get a first hand look as racers rush by while enjoying a local craft brew. It’s only a quick jump from the finish line where you can watch all the excitement!
There are a few other spectator stops that might be more your style such as Island Park, where it all begins. The Mount Pleasant CVB and ASM will be hosting a bon fire so you can stay warm and watch as racers start out with a burst of energy as they take on the tire trap and 25-ft log carry.
Mill Pond at Adams Street is also a great location to watch these brave racers try to conquer the Freaking Freezing Challenge. This area will be the half way point of the race where the Mount Pleasant CVB and ASM have created quite the challenge for participants, but easy access for you. With easy parking right at the park you are bound to be inspired by the racers and have a great spot to cheer them on.
The finish line at City Hall is another fantastic place to help motivate the racers as they race down Broadway and come up to the last “top secret” obstacle next to City Hall downtown. You can be the first to applaud all those brave enough to take on the challenge when they cross the finish line and head to the victory party!
The Freaking Freezing Challenge will also give back to the local community by donating a percentage of the Freaking Freezing registration fees towards improving the
Mount Pleasant park system. Also,
H.A.T.S, the Humane Animal Treatment Society is organizing a Friday night carb-load dinner at local restaurants so racers can load up with a portion of the proceeds going back to the animal centered organization.
There will also be an opportunity to donate new or used winter gear to the Salvation Army coat drive taking place.
For participants of the event there will be a pre-race packet pickup available at the
Comfort Inn & Suits Conference Center on Friday, February 8 from 10am to 8pm.
You or a friend or family member will need to be present to receive your goody-bag and other materials. On the day of the race, packet pickup will NOT be available.
